[ Back Home ] July 4, 2006Beanie Babies Cemetary Thief ArrestedSt. Mathew’s Cemetery in Posey County, which is in southern Indiana, has been under surveillance. That turns out to be bad news for Lucinda J. Jacobs. Those who have buried their loved ones at St. Mathew’s had complained of theft occurring at the cemetery. It turns out that someone was stealing Beanie Babies—stuffed animals—from the gravesites of children no longer with us. The disgusting and cruel crime was allegedly committed by Lucinda J. Jacobs, a 43 year-old woman. In court, Jacobs plead not guilty to the charge of felony theft. Unfortunately for Jacobs, the recent incident was captured on videotape. On Saturday, Mount Vernon Police Chief Grant Beloat documented Jacobs stealing two Beanie Babies from the cemetery. Later, those same two items were discovered inside Jacobs’ vehicle. After her not guilty plea, Jacobs was released on $5,000 bond. Those concerned about theft at St. Mathew’s can breathe a little easier. It looks like the criminal was caught.
